Steven's photographic art consists of both "created imagery" and "captured imagery". In other words, he creates from scratch abstract images and also manipulates existing images to come up with something very unusual, all using a variety of photographic techniques. He rarely uses digital tools to create or manipulate images. His "captured imagery" has been shot during various travels around the world -- Italy, France, Monaco, England, The Netherlands, Morocco, Japan, Mexico and Canada, and of course here in America. His "captured" shots are in color and black & white. Lately he's been doing a lot with black & white, which tends to give a very different feeling than color. Much of Steven's work has a degree of abstraction about it. The color work is often quite vivid and saturated. Even with the straight (unaltered) shots, he seeks to find an unusual perspective that will make the viewer pause. His intention in "creating" some of his images is that they will have a luminous quality to them (as if the subject is emitting it's own light rather than reflecting light), that they each have a certain form of abstraction, and that the viewer will sense a mysteriousness about them. Combining unique synthetic imagery together with music is the essence of Steven's video art career, which he's been pursuing through the production of computer animation videos since 1988. In 1990 he conceived and produced "The Mind's Eye", a pioneering and cutting edge home entertainment presentation of computer animation & music -- which was followed by three other videos in the "Mind's Eye" series. So far over 25 videos of computer animation have been produced. These are distributed on DVD by Sony Music within video stores and music stores.
