ANITA LEWIS

"Whether art be disturbing, cerebral, or pleasant, it is up to the viewer to decide. In my opinion this describes Modern Art.

As for my own work, I always strive for the aesthetically pleasing, balanced in some way in color and theme, perhaps something looking vaguely familiar...   Life's mundane sequence deserves a little pleasant break now and then"

Anita’s style leans toward the abstract and some impressionist, combining the two to create sense of feeling rather than paint a picture. Art to her is the expression of her inner balance, a process of positive energy pouring forth, a state of childlike happiness achieved.

She has also been influenced by Richard Diebenkorn, a contemporary American abstract artist from California, and her European experiences. Another one of her favorite artists whom she views as a mentor for her impressionistic style is renowned artist Alan Wolton of Sedona, Arizona.

BIO:
Anita Lewis was born in Santa Monica, California in September 1957.

An unusual degree of talent was discovered early on in the arts and drawing, and her first oil painting was produced at the tender age of 12, where the instructor of an adult oil painting course held up her first attempt at oil painting in front of the class to use as an example of what the instructor was looking for.

At 14, she was already taking on commissions to paint portraits of rock stars for the community. (Eric Clapton, being one of her subjects.) Formal education consisted of a Bachelors Degree in Art from Calif. State University, Northridge, where she participated in her first art shows. Her studies included a strong background of renaissance and modern art history, which reflects in her styles. Her career took a different turn however, excelling in interior and kitchen design, both in the United states and in Europe, where she has won many accolades and international awards, and has been featured in numerous magazines.

However, her love for painting never ceased, so continued to paint while living in Germany for 18 years, and so held art shows of her own in Heidenheim 1987 and Augsburg, Germany in 1992. During her time in Europe, she was also taking on commissions for her high end clients of her design career.

Although Anita is a relative newcomer to the professional and competitive public art scene, she has something to offer, that many out there only hope to achieve. To this day, people around the world have already collected her art.

Her newest venture has been to create an art group called "Carinthia", introducing upcoming European artists to the American art scene. This group efforts reminds of the times of "Die Bruecke" and "Der Blaue Reiter" which featured artists of the time such as Franz Marc, Ernst-Ludwig Kirchner, and August Macke.
