Heli Hofmann, native to the Bavarian area of Germany, was educated in private schools, which provided a solid artistic foundation for her paintings.

After spending a year on the scenic Island of Mallorca, of the coast of Spain, she returned to Munich, Germany, where she became inspired by the paintings of Expressionist painters such as Franz Marc, August Macke, Gabriele Muenter, and Alexej Jawlensky, as well as early Wassily Kandinsky. After emigrating to California, she finds new beauty in its historic missions, flower fields, sunsets, and cloud formations.
