About the Artist:
Pattern and texture mixed with personal symbolism infuse the expressive paintings of California artist Marie Najera. In this exhibition, Najera focuses again on figures creatively costumed and fancifully playing – almost as though the paintings are her daydreams or visual diaries.
The symbols change frequently and through free association give the viewer the task of piecing together stories almost voyeuristically. Life, with its unexpected hits and misses, is writ large upon her canvases. Largely self-taught, Najera was born and bred in Southern California. She exhibits frequently in and around San Diego and Santa Fe.
